GLASS COLLECTORS:

The Role

You'll be making sure that the toilets, bar, ashtrays and floors are kept clean at all times. In between these periods you'll be re-stocking the bar and collecting empty glasses, there is a real unity between the glass collectors making this role really sociable and fun. If this sounds right up your street, this could be the summer job for you.

Qualities Needed

  • A strong stomach if you need to clean up anything not so nice

Average Wage

  • 40 Euros per day

Average Hours of Work in Tenerife

  • 7pm to 4am

Benefits

You'll receive a basic wage, free drinks tokens and work in a constant party atmosphere.

Negatives

You will have to sometimes do the jobs that you would rather not do. Cleaning toilets after drunken people have used them can be pretty hard core, but it will only be a small percentage of your role.

RESTAURANT WORK:

The Role

PR work for Restaurants, this will involve getting groups into the restaurants offering them discounts or free drinks. Waiting on customers, this involves taking food and drinks orders. Possible Chef Work (this is work that they would prefer you to have had experience in and can be hard work) or there is kitchen porter work available which is hard work also.

Qualities Needed

  • Able to write orders down accurately and make them readable
  • Able to carry a large tray
  • Confident in serving food
  • Possible knowledge needed for remembering specials and prices
  • Friendly and bubbly

Average Wage

  • 30-40 Euros per night, plus tips

Average Hours of Work in Tenerife

  • 8-hour shifts from 11am to 12am

Benefits

A basic wage and most restaurants will also provide free lunches or dinners. You’ll also have most of the nights free to party as you will finish when the restaurant closes.

Negatives

On busy days/nights you will be working very hard, and the atmosphere is not as ‘party party’ as other work available in the resorts. If you work as a kitchen porter prepare to smell of food at the end of your shift and have thick skin as chefs are renowned for being bossy and demanding.

TICKET SELLER:

The Role

You will be Selling Tickets for club nights, boat parties or bar crawls. This will involve going round groups of people throughout the day and sometimes in the evening promoting and selling these tickets. This could be down around the main strip, on the beach or outside the bars and clubs. If this sounds like fun then this could be the job for you.

Qualities Needed

  • Confident to talk to groups of people
  • Being able to sell something in the most appealing way possible
  • Using your imagination to market your sale
  • The “gift of the gab”

Average Wage

  • 15-60 Euros per day

Average Hours of Work in Tenerife

  • Varied

Benefits

You are your Own Boss so there is no one supervising you so you can spend as much or as little time as you want with potential customers. There are potentially high earnings to be made. Discount or free entry to any of the activities you are selling including the clubs. You can get to know a lot of people whilst selling making it a really sociable job.

Negatives

Lots of competition and if you have not got the gift of the gab you could suffer a lot of rejection.

FREE DRINKS – DRINK RESPONSIBLY:

95% employers will give you free drinks while you’re at work, so no matter how much you’re making, you can always leave work nicely tanked up. Please note, managers don’t take too kindly to workers getting blind drunk and incoherent, and this is the number one reason for dismissal. Aim to drink responsibly.
